A day out with your kid

In the earlier days, joint families facilitated enough time for stories, fun and play where the grandparents fed the children with morals and life lessons from mythology and of course their experience. But in today’s world of nuclear families, more often than not both the parents are professionally occupied. In such a scenario, spending quality time with children becomes imperative to ensure strong bonding. With scarce time at hand amidst busy schedules, a planned day out will certainly be worthwhile.

• Involve the child: Nothing can be as exciting for the child as the discussion about the place of visit. Expose them to the various options and take in their suggestions too. Deliberate on different ideas and allow them to take decisions.

• Bring in variety: The place of visit can be either purely entertaining or can add up to some learning. For instance, a museum can always provide information about things on display. An amusement park can be a full day of absolute fun. However, one needs to alternate among different places of interest so that the going does not get mundane.

Options at hand:

Museum: Be it a science museum, rail museum or an archaeological museum- each has its own charm. Do not forget to take a note-pad to jot down interesting facts that you may be able to collect. Some museums are huge. Choose that section which excites the child more. Give enough time to go through the exhibits. Do not be in a hurry to cover the entire museum haphazardly. Let the learning and understanding be complete. One can always go back one other day.

Amusement Park or Theme park: What could be more rewarding than those intimate times on the rides with your son and daughter? The thrill rides do kindle the child in you which enables you to relate to your children better. Do not dissuade your children from trying new rides. As far as possible try and join them in the rides. Do caution them and brief them about safety measures to be undertaken. Do not forget to carry you swim wear during summers. The water rides do double up the enjoyment. Of course, application of sunscreen lotion becomes a must to avoid harm from the chlorinated water.

Video Parlours: In spite of video games having dominated the computers, mobile phones, i-pads etc right into our living rooms, nothing can provide the ambience that a video parlour can. Big screens, great sound effect, and better picture quality makes it quite a place for kids to enjoy. Do ensure that children do not play games that involve too much violence. And of course, it will be great if you too can join your child in the games. And there are many more…….theatre, puppet shows, dance shows, magic shows…….
